Simple Elegance

A nice frame and new matting to pay compliment to a piece of art that is priceless to me.
My Uncle Harry sketched this picture in January 1970. He gave it to me after I asked for one of his pieces of artwork.
Thanks Hess!

The old mill pond near Savannah, Georgia was the childhood home of my mother, her sister Donna, and brother Harry. A older sister Maria didn't spend much time with the younger siblings playing their childish games. Least I never heard those stories.

The old grist mill was restored to grind such things as corn and sugar cane. The pond's dam was restored after a flood and the lake stocked with fish. I recall stringers of fish held by granddad and his buddies.

The mill house was the place where granny would lay the 3 kids down for their naps. Then lay down herself........ After she was good and asleep, the kids would hop out of bed and slip out the trap door under the house. Then crawl across the beams above the water to new and dangerous adventures.

Swimming with gators, climbing trees to avoid snakes that turned out to be shadows are a few of the tales that have been told. And lest we not forget the kids trying to emulate their mother....smoking cigs in bed. Amongst screaming kids, Granny grabbed the mattress that was on fire and threw it out in the lake.....only to remember her wedding rings were under the pillow. (they were never found)

Ahh the memories of childhood.
