Glint of Time

It was made and lost many years ago. Serving a purpose as great as life itself.

Cold winter morning huddled under the warmth of fur .......waiting.......... watching for the perfect opportunity. Slithering through the dense woods on a almost unnoticable trail. Catlike aware of every twig that needs avoiding in case it give way to your presence. The crisp earthy smells of leaf and earth are all around you as you inch your way down the trial. Listening for long moments between steps, you catch a flicker of movement in the distant old growth river bottoms. Waiting intently for what seems a eternity, you see movement again. This time the movement takes shape as a young buck feeding on this year's bountiful acorn crop. He makes his way slowly toward your position unaware of your presence.Waiting............and now the time is here as he passes behind a tree. You draw your long stick and hold steady...just one more step. Then with a solid thud you find your mark. The young buck dashes for false safety only to crumble back to the earth from which he came.

All is silent now.

Time stands still then as it does now.

If only for a moment.....a find of a glint of time!

Nice piece, James. I see you are getting the hang of stringing words together too. Try not to eat any like us kids did as we strung popcorn garlands for Christmas.

Did you know there is a Plainview Point which is rather famous?
